Deep Roots was born from a profound love and respect for the community and the outdoors.

We are committed to environmental sustainability. Two simple elements, a leaf and a fish, incorporate our ethos to bring us back to nature, closer to each other, and also back to ourselves. We are committed to empowering people across our entire ecosystem and to adopting a sustainability approach in all that we do because of our strong conviction that doing so will have a positive impact on both people and the planet. Our mission is to provide the highest level of service to our guests and visitors without losing sight of our obligation to preserve the island and its people.

Our Building

Our resort was designed with the purpose of retaining the natural terraces that were used for agricultural purposes for generations by limiting excavation and building with the land’s natural contours. Most of the pathways are made using rocks from the excavation process. To save our main tree that overlooks the swimming pool, the main building was pushed two meters back, resulting in a smaller parking area.
Our main restaurant building's roof is lined with solar panels, which can provide 20% of our electrical needs and will be expanded in the future.

Recycling and Waste

All of our black water flows into our own sewage treatment plant and is filtered through our waste water garden. This ensures that our gardens are continually watered with recycled water.
Recycling, a composting system for wet waste, and reducing the amount of plastic used in our day-to-day operations are all part of our waste management system, which is designed to minimize environmental impact.

Natural Pool and Gardens

The swimming pool at Deep Roots does not use chlorine and instead relies on a system of plants, volcanic rock, and sand filters to keep it clean and environmentally friendly.
The majority of the gardens are planted with edible greens and drought-resistant plants. We have also planted many trees on which local birds nest and feed, creating small pockets for their habitat and husbandry.

Our Products

All of our cleaning products are biodegradable and meet ISO and EU environmental standards. Soaps and amenities are packaged in recycled materials and are all made in Indonesia from biodegradable and compostable materials.
